Solheim Cup-Opening pairings

USA-USA...The Solheim Cup starts Friday morning at Rich Harvest Farms. The first group will tee off at 8:05 AM, local time the opening matches will be fourball with foursome matches in the afternoon. This afternoon the Captains met the media at 3:30 local time to announce the pairings, then said the information is on embargo until 6:25 when the Golf Channel announces them.

European Captain Alison Nicholas announced her first team out as Suzann Petersen and Sophie Gustafson, USA Captain Beth Daniel countered with Paula Creamer and Christie Kerr. Match two at 8:20 will have Helen Alfredsson and Tania Elosegui for Europe,
while Angela Stanford and Juli Inkster represent the USA. Match three at 8:35 has Laura Davies and Becky Brewerton for Europe against the Brittany's, Lang and Lincicome. The final morning match at 8:50 AM has Catriona Matthew and Maria Hjorth for Europe against Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie for the USA.

Both captains said the first day opening pairings had a lot to do with who wanted to play with each other. I asked Beth Daniel about her strategy of getting both captains picks in to the action so early and she said. "Wow I guess I did". Then joked that Ron Sirak of Golf World/Golf Digest said she should."Once I made those picks they became one of the twelve. So I don't look at them as picks anymore, that didn't even cross my mind as I made the pairings. I just think they will be good pairings and I also have two rookies going out in the morning too."

What will that lineup mean, we will find out tomorrow morning. Coverage is available on the Golf Channel. Now it's off to see the opening ceremonies.
