THE HISTORIC HOMESTEAD MOVES FORWARD AND KEEPS THE SPIRIT OF 1766

GUESTS OF THE HISTORIC HOMESTEAD RESORT AND SPA, NEVER HAVE ANY PROBLEM
REMEMBERING WHAT YEAR THE RESORT WAS FOUNDED BECAUSE THE SPIRIT OF 1766
IS EVERYWHERE.

The Homestead runs deep in tradition, but this historic american property is constantly updating
and upgrading to keep up with modern conveniences for it's guests. So if you like to enjoy the
past and explore american history, and do it while enjoying hospitality at it's best, the Homestead
is for you.

Golf at the Homestead is a tradition that is taken seriously, that tradition dates back to 1892. When
the Old Course located right on location at the resort was originally built. The initial layout was only
six holes, the first tee is still in use today. It's the oldest tee in continuous use in America. The course
was originally designed by famed architect Donald Ross, but received a million dollar restoration
from Rees Jones in 1994. The Old Course with it's mountain style terrain plays longer that the Par
72, 6,211 yard layout would indicate.

The pride of golf at the Homestead, is the historic Cascades Golf Course. For over 80 years it
was the top rated golf course in Virginia, it still ranks #47 on the Golfweek Magazine America
Greatest 100 Classsic course list.

Sam Snead who grew up in the area, had a long deep history with the Cascades Course that was
deigned by famous golf architect William S.Flynn. The Cascades Course which is regarded as
America's  premier mountain golf course, opened for play in 1923. American presidents such as
William Taft, Dwight Eishenhower and George Bush Sr. have golfed the Cascades Course. Snead
whose ranch still sits just down the road from the course, (located just a couple of miles from the
Homestead Hotel) worked as laborer on the course during construction. After defining his game
on the course, he became the courses first head professional in the mid-1930's.

Snead always said this about the Cascades. "It makes one hit every club in the bag, which is the
mark of a great course. If you can play good golf at the Cascades you play good anywhere." The
Cascades Course has had recent renovations that restored the course to Flynn's original design.

The Cascades Course signature hole is the par 3 4th hole, which plays 210 yards from the tips
that are at the back of an elevated tee box. The fast green is sloped and has a sand trap guarding
the left side.

The Cascades Course has held eight USGA Championships and more recently the NCAA National
Championships. The course plays longer than the 6,679 yards Par 70 would indicate. The course
record is 61 by Snead, who played the last nine holes in all 3's. Cascades is made up of long
narrow fairways, quick greens and in many cases surrounded by white sand bunkers. The Cascades
gorge and stream, complete with water falls that both surround and run through the course. No visit
to the Homestead is complete without a round of golf on the Casacdes Course.

The Lower Cascades Course is the third and newest member of the Homesteads Courses. Built
in 1963 by Robert Trent Jones, the course carries many of Jones signature trademarks. Large
greens, wider more forgiving fairways and long tee boxes. The course plays 6,619 yards par
72. The Cascades Stream winds through several holes on the course.

Homestead Golf Academy which was formerly known as the Golf Advanatge School, has been
redone and will help golfers get around the resorts three courses hopefully with a lower score.

Golfers can enjoy great dinning before or after their rounds at multiple locations around the
resort. At the Cascades Course golfers should enjoy Rubino's upstairs over the proshop. With
indoor and outdoor dinning that over looks the closing holes. The Casino room at the Old course
is also very good. Just across the street from the Homestead sits Sam Snead's restaurant,
while there are several Snead's around the country, this location is the first and best. A must
if you are looking for great burgers, ribs and steaks.

While enjoying the Homestead, golfers have no reason to have any aches and pains. The
hot springs baths and the resorts spa have been around long before, most other resorts or
properties were even in existence or knew what a spa was.The Homestead spa always
rates among the best in America.

There is more than golf to do at the Homestead, One can try their hand at bowling, wintertime skiing,
tennis, shooting, canoeing, or visit the resorts Equestrian Center.

The Homestead located in Hot Springs VA., is much more than just a great golf getaway. 23 American
presidents have been there, you can too.
