THE DECEMBER GOG BLOG NEWS COLUMN IS HERE
SORRY FOLKS I STILL DONT HAVE NAME FOR THIS COLUMN YET, BUT I WILL
GET ONE ONE OF THESE MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT NEWS FOR THE QUAD CITIES AND THE JOHN DEERE CLASSIC (JDC).
The PGA Tour and the John Deere Classic announced a new agreement extending
the tournament through 2016. The new six year deal means the quad cities will
have the PGA Tour for quite some time, squelching rumors the tournament would
end after the 2010 event.
John Deere has been the title sponsor for this event since 1998, that is held the
week before the British Open in July. The JDC is one of the most successful
tournaments on tour in raising money for charity, through the events Birdies For
Charity program. Since 1998 the tournament has raised over 30 million dollars
for charity, over 500 quad cities area organizations have benefited from the money
raised at the JDC.
GOG sends it's congratulations to JDC Tournament Director Clair Petersen,
Communications Director Barry Cronin, the entire staff at the JDC and at the John
Deere Company. Steve Stricker will be this years defending champion.
THE BMW Championship at Cog Hill in Lemont, has a ticket special running for
Chicago District Golf Assocation members through December 31st. Clubhouse
tickets are discounted. There is also a new ticket plan called the Corporate Ticket
Book, for people who need to distribute tickets to multiple clients, or employees.
For more information www.BMWChampionshipUSA.com or contact ticket Sales
Manager Nik Lapin at (847)-724-4600
Defending Champion Tiger Woods is expected to be in the field. If one he is healthy,
and two if he qualifies, since the BMW Championship is a Fed-Ex Cup Playoff event.
Neither should be a problem by September.
ONE OF THE MIDWEST'S great golf travel destinations the Harvester Golf Club, in
Rhodes Iowa just east of Des Moines has completed renovations by architect Keith
Foster. The award winning Harvester G.C. one of Golfweek Magazines Greatest 100
Modern Courses (#73), will have a new look especially on the the closing holes of
both nines.
New limestone rock walls will boarder the water, extending from the par 3 17th hole tee
box, up to the area around the 18th green. The same rock face will also run along the
water, on the leftside of the par 4 9th hole. Head Professional John Haberman says
that, "Foster also took out the second fairway water crossing on the 18th hole. All 75
of the courses bunkers have been re-edged, There have been a few new bunkers added,
along with a couple of new sod-faced looking grass bunkers. A few tee boxes have
been repositioned."
The Harvester will re-open weather permitting around April 1st of 2010, I suggest golfers
don't wait too long to go visit. Tee times will fill up quickly. For More information on
