SMALL HANGS ON TO WIN THIRD PPNC AT FRENCH LICK

THE PAR 4 NINTH HOLE AT THE PETE DYE COURSE AT FRENCH LICK HOME OF THE
2010 PPNC.

MIKE SMALL HAS A GRABBED A PIECE OF HISTORY BY WINNING HIS THIRD PGA
PROFESSIONALS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Small 44, won for the championship for the third time in just six years (2005,2009),
taking home the $75,000 first prize. Small recovered from a terrible start, to win by
three shots on the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort.

Three titles is the most by any player, the record is now shared by Small and the late
Larry Gilbert of Kentucky.

At one point Small the Head Golf Coach at the University of Illinois was five over par
on his final round, but finished with three birdies in his last five holes to post a one
over par 73. Small finished at eight under par (278), which was good enough to defeat
Sonny Skinner who posted a final round 71 (-1) of the River Pointe G.C. in Georgia.

Skinner actually rallied to tie Small late in the round. But after he failed to get up and
down from a bunker on 16, while Small was making birdie at the same time the
tournament was decided.

2009 runner up Mark Sheftic of Blue Bell (PA.) and the Merion G.C., dropped back one
spot further this year, finishing third after a final round of two under par (70) left him
four shots back of Small.

Small, Skinner, and Sheftic will be joined by the pro's who finished between spots
4-20 at the PGA Championship August 9-15 at the links style Pete Dye designed
Whistling Straits golf course in Kohler/Haven Wisconsin.

For Small,"It'a chance for revenge" after missing the cut at Whistling Straits in the 2004
PGA.

Steve Orrick from Decatur and the Decatur C.C. fired an even par 72 in the final round,
and earned a check for $5,310. The bad news was that Orrick finished in 21st place
one spot from a trip to the PGA Championship.

David Paeglow of Dekalb, and the Kishwaukee C.C. struggled for the third straight day
on the Pete Dye course with a final round of 79 +7. Paeglow also missed out on the
PGA but earned $1,862 for his efforts and making the cut.

Besides the first place check and trophy, Small earns six exemptions into PGA Tour
events in 2011. Small will use one of those exemptions he earned from last years win
next week at the John Deere Classic in the Quad Cities.
