ILLINOIS WINS 3RD STRAIGHT BIG TEN TITLE, NU 2ND


THE FIGHTING ILLINI MENS GOLF TEAM HAS WON THE 2011 MENS BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP



ILLINI HEAD COACH MIKE SMALL, HAS LEAD ILLINOIS TO 3 STRAIGHT BIG TEN TITLES

The Fighting Illini won their third straight Big Ten Title, and their 10th title in school
history by 19 shots over Northwestern. #11 Illinois finished  with a four round total
of 1,160, NU 1,179 and #13 Iowa 1,181 was third, Ohio State fourth, and Indiana
fell from a tie for third place, down to fifth place.

Purdue was the host for the championship, which was played at the PU home course
at the Birick Boilermaker facility. The course was designed by Pete Dye with a lot
of help from Purdue University students.

Illinois was led by Big Ten individual champion Luke Guthrie, who carded a final
round 2 under par 70 and was -1 (287) for the championship. Iowa's Chris Brant
was second and NU's David Lipsky was third.

2ND PLACE NORTHWESTERN AFTER THE FINAL ROUND WITH
COURSE DESIGNER PETE DYE.

The tournament named Guthrie, along with teammates Scott Langley and Chris
Deforest to the All-Championship team. David Lipsky of Northwestern was also
named to the team.

In 2012 the Big Ten Championships begin a three year run at the French Lick
Resort in southern Indiana.
