SOBB WINS IPGA SR. MATCH PLAY AT SHOREACRES

JIM SOBB SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED HIS IPGA SR. MATCH PLAY TITLE AT SHOREACRES

The title of Illinois Senior PGA Match Play Champion has been going back
and forth like a volleyball over a net, for the last four years. Jim Sobb head
professional at the Ivanhoe Club, ended that tradition when he defeated
Flagg Creek head professional Billy Rosinia 2 & 1.

Rosinia started the tradition he and Sobb have had going for years when
he won the title in 2007, Sobb then won in 2008. Rosinia took it back with
another win in 2009, only to have Sobb grab the trophy again last year.

So when Rosinia defeated Jerry Swain in the semi-finals and Sobb won
his match against Bob Prange, it seemed like it was time for Rosinia
to take the trophy home. Only someone forgot to tell Sobb it was supposed
to be Rosinia's turn.

"Neither one of us got off to a great start," Sobb said. " The match came
down since we were even through the first 14 holes. Not a lot of birdies
just a bunch of grinding by Billy and I."

The conditions changed for the championship match as cold and misty
conditions came in off Lake Michigan. The morning matches were sunny
and dry, then the temperature plummeted to only 62 degrees for the back
nine of the championship.

"We should have told each other prior to playing (it was my turn to win) it
would have saved us a long two or three hours," Rosinia said." But he
played really well and kudos to Jim."

With the match tied after 14 holes, Sobb got home in two shots on the
par 5, 521 15th hole. Rosinia was just off the green and settled par, with
Sobb making birdie.

The same thing happened on the par 4, 438 yard 16th hole. Sobb hitting
th green in two, with Rosinia just off the back. Sobb two putted and Rosinia
could not get up and down to save his par.

The par 4, 355 17th was where the match ended. Rosinia did well to
make par after driving in the deep rough, after his approach hit the back
bunker, Rosinia chipped on and made a 20 par save. Sobb was able
to end the match with a drive in the fairway, then hitting the green on his
second shot and two putting for the win.

Both Sobb and Rosinia will compete in the IPGA Match Play Championship
that starts at Kemper Lakes on May 16th. Sobb lost in the finals at kemper
last year to IPGA 2010 Section Player of the Year Travis Johns, who will
begin his title defense at Kemper Lakes.

The senior match play was held again this year at Shoreacres GC a
1916 classic Seth Raynor designed course. The course plays to a back
yardage of 6,530 yards and a par of 71. Sponsors of the event included
TaylorMade and Adidas.
