THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT, RANTS RAVES, MORE

IVANHOE HEAD PRO JIM SOBB HEADS OFF TO VALHALLA AND THE SENIOR PGA TODAY

A tip of the cap or golf visor to Jim Sobb of the Ivanhoe Club for being the first
in the Illinois PGA Section member to win the Match Play Championship, and
the Senior Match Play Championship the week before.

Today Sobb who qualified at the Senior PPNC last year, will head to kentucky
and the Jack Nicklaus designed Valhalla GC to play in the 2011 Senior PGA
Championship.

The championship will head to the Nicklaus designed Harbor Shores Golf
Club in Benton Harbor next year, Bellerive CC in St. Louis for 2013, and back
to Harbor Shores in 2014.

"The switch over from match play to stroke play won't be a problem," Sobb said.
"I'll head down Monday morning, chip and putt in the afternoon. Then take a
trip around the course Tuesday and Wednesday and I'll be ready to go."

Sobb said he has played Valhalla several times in a past PPNC, and with
some Ivanhoe members who have memberships at Valhalla.

Sobb will also play in the PPNC championship in Hershey this summer, for
a chance to play in the PGA Championship in august at the Atlanta Athletic
Club. Sobb will play in the Illinois Open at Hawthorn Woods in July, and the
Illinois PGA Section Championship at Medinah in August.

Sobb was the IPGA 2010 Senior Player of the Year and runner up to Travis
Johns for the Section Player of the Year. Not bad for a senior. Sobb has won
three senior match play championships and three section championships.
He has already established himself as the player to beat in the section in 2011,
in the upcoming events and for Player of the year.

Right now I wouldn't bet against Sobb in the Illinois Open, inspite of all those
young college amateurs in the field. keep going Jim, your an inspiration to all
golfers, especially us guys over 50.

CONGRATS..TO MIKE SMALL AND PAT GOSS..The head coaches at Illinois
and Northwestern for leading their teams to the 2011 NCAA National
Championships starting May 31st at Karsten Creek GC in Oklahoma.

Small and Goss are both class acts, maybe that's why they coach golf. They
aren't like some coaches in other sports that put their schools in trouble
with the NCAA all the time.

Both coaches do more than than help student athletes with their golf swings,
they help them be better students, great representatives of their universities,
and good people going forward in life. To both coaches, keep up the good
work. Both on and off the course.

SPEAKING OF COLLEGE..congrats to Caddy Joeseph Greco of Kemper
Lakes, the Hawthorne Woods resident and Senior at Lake Zurich HS, has
been awarded a full Evans Scholarship to attend Unviersity of Colorado
in Boulder. Have fun this summer on the bag. Kudos to the WGA too.

WORLD NUMBER 8 OR IS IT 10..OR LOWER..What's left to say about the
sinking Tiger Woods, who continues to plummet in the world rankings like
someone who just jumped off a clift. Try to name a body part in his legs that
don't have issues right now, by his own admission.

Is it the result of being around the wrong doctor, and taking the wrong drugs,
or shooting up the wrong drugs. A recent SI poll, said that 70% of the PGA
Tour players interviewed anonymously believe Woods was juicing. I am not
saying he did, but more signs are starting to point in that direction.

Woods is going to try and play in the US Open at Congressional where he
has been the host of a PGA Tour event in recent years. Can his body hold up,
how about his swing ? Coach Sean Foley really has some work to do in the
next 30 days with Woods swing.

MEMO TO ESPN..It's NOT breaking news every time Woods enters another
tournament. Don't treat it as such. It will be news if he walks off and WD's
after 9 holes on Thursday at Congressional.

ERIN HILLS IS QUICKLY BECOMING..one of the hottest golf destinations
in the whole country, much less the midwest or Wisconsin. Under the new
ownership of Andy Ziegler and leadership of Rich Tock, Erin Hills star is
really starting to shine. Golf course improvements, range improvements,
overnite rooms, new clubhouse, new putting green, upgrades to existing
structures and maintenance facilities.

All of this while being on a short notice to host this years US-Amateur. The
course will also host the 2017 US Open, no small feet being one of only
six public courses to do so by 2017. While us Chicago area types felt bad
for the Jemsek family when they lost out on the open to Erin Hills last year,
it's easy when visiting Erin Hills now, why the USGA loves this place.

Here's betting the USGA isn't done with Erin Hills after 2017 either. The
US-Amateur is August 22-28, go play Erin Hills and enjoy the walk. Yes
it's walking only, the best way to play golf in it's natural state. Erin Hills
is a very natural golf course too. www.erinhills.com. (262)-670-8600.
