CDGA AMATUERS WIN 50TH RADIX CUP OVER IPGA PROS
THERE ARE NO BACK-TO-BACK TITLES FOR THE IPGA PROS, WHO WERE BEATEN
BY THE CDGA AMATEURS 12.5 TO 5.5 IN THE 50TH ANNUAL RADIX CUP.
The IPGA Professionals who have struggled in recent years, were hoping to win
back-to-back Radix Cups for the first time since 2003-04. It didn't happen as the
CDGA Amateurs took control after the first match and never looked back, going
on to win 12.5 to 5.5.
Format for the matches is six-two man teams play for a total of three points
per match. One point per side and one more point for total scores.
CDGA Captain Peter Carey was unable to attend, leaving Honorary Captain
Jerry Williams in charge. Williams did a great job rallying his amateurs,
in avenging last years loss.

Williams sent Skokie's Steve Sawtell and Bloomingtons Todd Mitchell out
first against IPGA 2010 player of the year Travis Johns from Twin Lakes,
and 2011 Match play finalist Rich Dukelow of Cantigny. Sawtell and Mitchell
walked away with all three points, with Sawtell making a 15 foot birdie on 17
to put the Am's in position for the three point outcome.
The IPGA pros came back in match 2, narrowing the deficit to 4-2. Connie
Demattia of Cantigny Golf, made a par putt on 18 to give the pros the extra
point. Demattia was paired with Steve Orrick who replaced IPGA iron man
Jim Sobb, who was unable to play for the first time in 22 years with the
passing of his father. Ryan Dorner and John Wright were the amateurs
for the CDGA .
Frank Bruno the Head Professional at the host club Oak Park and David
Paeglow, who had been a very successful team in past years. Got shutout
3-0 by amateurs John Ergott and Andy Mickelson, which opened the lead
for the amateurs to 7-2.
Pros Bryan Luedtke and Jordan Schroeder, kept the IPGA hopes alive
for a tie, by taking one point from amateurs Blake Johnson and Dave Ryan.
But the CDGA Amateurs had clinched no worse than a tie leading 9-3,
with two matches left.
In match 5 the IPGA team of Billy Rosina and Eric Ilic managed two points
from CDGA amateurs Brian Atkinson and Justin Smith. But that one point
clinched the Radix Cup for the amateurs, with the score now being 10-5.
The final match saw amateurs Vance Antoniou and Tim Sheppard, get
2.5 of 3 points against Glen Oak Assistant pro Matt Slowinski and Kyle
Sanders Assistant pro at Chicago Golf.

The CDGA Amateur team has now won the Radix Cup in eight of the
last 13 matches.
After golf concluded the post match dinner was held in the banquet room
at Oak Park CC. There were several speakers including Bruno who did
a great job of emceing the ceremonies.
The Radix Cup is named after Harvey Radix, a jeweler who enjoyed his golf
and did serve as president of the CDGA. Radix who received Masters badge
#1, died shortly after attending his 45th straight PGA Championship at the
age of 59. Radix did leave money behind in his will to continue the matches,
which financed the event for many years.
