DAVIS LOVE III IS THE CAPTAIN OF THE 2012 TEAM USA RYDER CUP
TEAM AT MEDINAH, THING IS HE REALLY WANTS TO BE ON HIS OWN
TEAM.

You would have to wonder how a phone call like that goes,
one where the Ryder Cup Captain of your team calls you to
say that you have made the squad.

Hi, Davis Love III please. This is he. Davis, hey it's Davis your
on the team congrats. Thanks Davis I'm thrilled and looking
forward to the matches,by the way how are those rainsuits
coming for this year. You know, ones that don't leak.

2012 Team USA Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III was
asked at his pre-tournament press conference at the John
Deere Classic, when he would put his game on the back
burner and start to concentrate more on his captain's duties.

Love III wasted no time answering, " I won't." That answer
might have surprised some reporters, but it wont surprise those
who know the drive of Davis Love III. Love III said he told
the PGA of America that right off the bat, who much time is
this going to take away from my hunting, fishing and my 
snowboarding (then he laughed). But in all likelihood he wasn't
kidding when he said that to the PGA.

"I am not going to back off my golf, " Love III said. "I signed
a deal with Bridgestone that said I would play in 20 tournaments,
but I always play in 23 or 4 or 5 anyway."

When asked about getting to know players who might he might
have to pick for the team and that he really is not familiar with,
Love III had a simple answer and plan for that.

"Go play golf with them," Love III said. " I have already gone out
and played with Bo Van Pelt, Mark Wilson, Jeff Overton and
Rickie Fowler. So I'll be ready for the Ryder Cup. Scott Verplank
and I already talked about just not deciding who is on the team,
but going out and making the team."

Love III admitted that inspite of playing on six Ryder Cup teams
he didn't realize how big the machine that drives the event really
is. Now he is part of it.

"I didn't realize until the last three or four months how big the 
matches really are, " Love III said. "I would just worry about
making the team and then the next one, I never had to worry
about what floor of the hotel the team is staying on. I just want
to get our guys playing from Friday to Sunday like they do
every other week."

Love III admits he is not worried about Rory McIlroy winning
the US Open the way he did, just that he was excited for him
since he felt bad for McIlroy after the way he lost the Masters.

When asked about the advice he would give to his players when
it comes time to play Love III had an interesting answer.

"Just make sure they make their tee-time, "Love II said. " If guys
like Tiger and Steve Stricker are playing together it's up to them
to go beat somebody."

Love III had an interesting answer when asked about advice he
has received from people in getting his team ready for the 2012
Ryder Cup.

"The best advice came from (former NHL player and Chicago
Blackhawks star) Denis Savard who said just open the door,"
Love III said. "That's the best advice I've gotten yet, just open
the door and let them go play."

Love III said he wanted to come in and see Medinah a couple
of weeks back, while his son Dru was playing the WGA Western
Junior Championship at Beverly Country Club. Unfortunately there
was some travel issues that kept him from doing so. But it appears
that he will get over to MCC while the BMW Championship is going
on at Cog Hill  this September. That is closer to the time of year the
event will be played anyway.

But with another Chicago winter in between now and when the
Ryder Cup will tee off in September of 2012, Love III knows
there is plenty of time to get over to Medinah next year and go
over course set up. Love III will talk with PGA Tournament
Director Kerry Haigh and Medinah Superintendent Curtis Tyrell,
frequently in 2012 about the greens and the rough.

"I have to see what type of team I'm going to have first, " Love III
said. "Will be bombers or other guys who are straight hitters.

Love III says he likes the new Bridgestone clubs and golf balls
he is playing this year, saying his current set clubs might be the
best he has ever had. If so, Captain Davis Love III might just
be 2012 Ryder Cup player Davis Love III.
