IN HONOR OF....Western Amateur week, the 109th Western Amateur
that is. I welcome defending champion David Chung to this column,
and wish him the best in defending his title.

The stanford Cardinal will have his hands full against a field that
is, one of the best ever assembled in tournament history. Congrats
to TD Vince Pellegrino and the WGA for putting together an event
that should be enjoyed by many. The tournament tees off today
and the 18 hole championship is Saturday afternoon. Come enjoy
it, the parking and admission are FREE.

25 of the top 30 amateur players in the world will be here. This is
golf at it's best, both stroke and match play are on tap this week.
Come see the format you enjoy best, or better yet see them all,
you will be glad you did.

WHEATON-WINFIELD NATIVE..AND PGA TOUR PLAYER KEVIN
STREELMAN..returns to his roots this Friday with a visit back
to his old place of employment Cantigny Golf in Wheaton.
Streelman is going to spend time with the junior golfers of
the area, and at a course where growing the game and helping
juniors get started is done in a top rate manor. The Cantigny
Youth Links are part of what's right about about the facility,
if you have a junior golfer in the family come let him or her see
Streelman it's worth the time.

HIS APPEARANCE WILL RUN FORM 10 AM UNTIL 4 PM, AND
is sponsored by The Illinois Junior Golf Association and by
Streelmans new equipment sponsor Chicago based Wilson
Golf.

RANT...Skip Bayless long time newspaper guy pulled off the
"He said it"comment of the week. Bayless asked about TW
or these days old World #21 (and sinking) by the week, return
to the PGA Tour this week at the Bridgestone WGC  tournament.
Well Skips heart might have been in the right place, but Skip
did predict that #21 would miss the cut this week.
CUT !!!!!!!!..there is NO CUT this week Skip..save the prediction
on #21 for the PGA Championship the following week.

RAVE..to the WGA on it's selection of The Knollwood Club
in Lake Forest as a future site for the Western Amateur in
2016. Knollwood's recent renovation by one of my favorite
architects is nothing short of outstanding. The WGA the
players and fans will love KCC when the AM gets there in
2016. In the meantime to see Knollwood, go next year on
day 1 or day 2 of the USGA Mid-Am, because KCC will
co-host the event with Conway Farms GC.

The 2012 Mid-AM should be a great event.

RAVE...GOES OUT TO GOLFWEEK SENIOR WRITER..on his
second edition of Discovering Donald Ross, it's well worth
the read. It's also one big book in hardback form, warning do
not drop it on your foot or you will miss time on the links this
summer. Add it to your gift list, to give or receive.

I'M OFF TO THE WESTERN AMATEUR SEE YOU THERE.......

The above are the opinions of Rory Spears, and not always
those of my Golfers on Golf Radio partners, all though at
times they could be....
