THE 11TH US AMATEUR..has reached it's 18th hole and what a week
it was. The weather wasn't nice early in the week before it allowed the
fans and players some nice golf weather in the late rounds.Congrats
to Kelly Kraft for winning the AM.
A special thanks to Erin Hills owner Andy Ziegler and GM Rich Tock
and the Erin Hills staff for doing it right. Blue Mound Club President
Mark Vetter and the membership at BMGCC should also be commended
for a job well done. Hopefully USGA Amateur Director Ben Kimball and
the USGA will pair these courses up again someday, they do make a
great combination.
A Thank You to Ziegler and his other corporate partners for making
admission and parking FREE to all fans, for the first time since 1997.
TODAY ILLINOIS HEAD GOLF COACH MIKE SMALL..looks to defend
his Illinois PGA Section Title for the ninth time. Small is going for his
record tenth section championship. A tip of the cap or golf visor to the
Illinois PGA Section and Medinah Country Club for hosting this great
event. The Medinah #1 course will provide a nice challenge for the players.
BEST OF LUCK TO THE CHICAGO HIGHLANDS CLUB..that will host
it's first USGA event this week. The Chicago Highlands Club will host
a qualifier for the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship. That championship
will be played at Conway Farms and The Knollwood Club in 2012.
IT'S NOT TO LATE...to decide where you are playing golf this weekend

conjunction with the Illinois PGA have lined up over 250 courses in Illinois
to support the mission. Find one of those courses and support Folds
of Honor and GO PLAY. More information www.foldsofhonor.com or

by Major Dan Rooney a PGA pro and F-16 pilot runs from Sept. 2-5.

RORY SPEARS WITH MAJOR ED PULIDO, FOLDS OF HONOR..AT WRIGLEY
EARLIER THIS SUMMER...Pulido won multiple medals for his service in the US
Army and Iraq.
TIP OF THE CAP OR GOLF VISOR TO..kelly Kraft, Jordan Speith, and Blayne
Barber on being Walker Cup choices.
WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS HE THINKING AWARD... goes to Fred Couples
for picking Tiger Woods to the Presidents Cup. Couples burned one of his two
captains picks way early on selecting Woods. Right now there was no reason,
zero reason, to select Woods.
Normally in the Presidents Cup Woods has been paired quite frequently Steve
Stricker, Stricker better get his sleep that week because he will be carrying the
world #38 and sinking like rock for several matches.
Public and media reaction has been mostly negative on Couples decision, and
a good player like Rickie Fowler or PGA Champion Keegan Bradley will be left
on the sidelines.That's a shame.
KUDO'S TO SIR NICK FALDO..who had the courage to say he wouldn't pick
Woods over Bradley or Fowler while on the Golf Channel. Faldo also said
that if he is the opposing captain he wouldn't worry about any member of his
team playing Woods. Couples just gave golf fans another reason for the TV's
to click off during Presidents Cup week. U-S-A U-S-A....good luck. Look for
another week of pointing wide right, wide left, and some club flinging too. OF
course some !#$!$*&! too.
ANOTHER KUDO'S TO THE GREAT WHITE SHARK..GREG NORMAN who
in a recent interview said there is way too much Tiger talk going on for a guy
who is playing the way Woods is.
THE BMW CHAMPIONSHIP IS COMING IN ONLY 14 DAYS (2 WEEKS),
BUY YOUR TICKETS..and support the Evans Scholars. (847)-724-4600.
THE GOG NEWS BLOG...will return either Thursday or Friday Sept. 1 or 2,
