THE SEPTEMBER GOG NEWS BLOG IS HERE...

WELCOME TO THE SEPTEMBER GOG NEWS BLOG...yes September is
here and that means the golf season is starting to slip away.

First off Congrats to Frank Hohenadel in his first Illinois PGA Section Major
Championship. Hopefully the party at Midlothian Country Club when Hohenadel
got back to the club with the James S. Kemper Cup was a good one.

Hohenadel becomes the first southsider to win the section championship in
49 years. (Thanks to Tim Cronin Southtown Star for the tip).

11 IPGA section players have earned berths in the 2012 Professional Players
National Championship (PPNC). Besides Hohenadel, Matt Slowinski, Bryan
Luedtke, Brian Brown, Mike Small, David Paeglow,Jonathan Dupler, Jim
Marinelli, Andy Shuman Steve Gillie, and Kevin Healy. Finally winning a six
players for one spot playoff was Billy Rosina. Congrats to all.

SHOCK AND AWE...were the feelings of many of the IPGA pro's and others
as well, when the IPGA announced all three days of the section championship
would be played under lift, clean and place rules. WHAT ? during three great
days of weather, and at Medinah.

For some reason the grounds and grass ( or lack of it) are struggling at
Medinah Country Club. One player in the IPGA section said, "we were
aiming for the rough to have grass to hit off". The championship was played
on course #1, but a review of courses 2 and 3 didn't fare any better. One
can only believe that the members aren't happy, and that hopefully better
days are ahead as MCC gets close to being one year out from hosting the
2012 Ryder Cup.

ANDY SHUMAN...has been named the 57th winner of the 2011 IPGA Section
Professional of the Year. The highest award given to an Illinois PGA golf
professional. Shuman heads up a list of winners for the year, who will be
honored at a dinner on October 19th. Shuman is the Director of Golf at the
Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove.

Shuman is also leading the way in pledges raised for next weeks IPGA and
Ronald McDonald House, Birdies For Charity event. Congratulations Andy.
The fundraiser will be held Tuesday Sept. 6th at the River Forest Country
Club in Elmhurst, more than 20 IPGA pros are participating. The hope is
to raise at least $75,000. For info on how to back your favorite IPGA pro
or just donate, please visit www.golfgives.org. To learn more about the
Ronald McDonald House www.RonaldHouseChicago.org. The pro's will
play 72 holes in their quest to raise money.

the Glen Club. While Jay Casaletto moves on and into the same role at
Royal Melbourne in Long Grove.

THE OLIVE BRANCHES..have been extended via the USGA to a few courses.
Seen or heard by the GOG Blog..and open door to Blue Mound CC to host
another USGA event..maybe a Senior Amateur. The Seth Raynor classic
got high marks during US-AM week. In addition seems like the USGA
wouldn't mind another Walker Cup at the Chicago Golf Club. Who can blame
them, it's a great idea. Hopefully CGC thinks so too, 2005 was a special event.

THE NEW OPEN DOCTORS...seem to be Ben Crenshaw and partner Bill Coore,
with Rees Jones taking some heat. Crenshaw and Coore who come off what
most say is a great revisions of Pinehurst #2 for the 2014 US Opens for both
Men and Women, have now been retained by Shinnecock for the 2018 US Open.

MORE COURSE WORK UNDERWAY..AT BRIARWOOD OF HIGHLAND PARK,
which is already closed for 2011. Greens and bunkers being redone, and the
course should re-open in mid to late May of 2012.

Chicago to Dublin for $499.00 non-stop. (800)-824-6538.

ILL-INI..MIKE SMALL'S Fighting Illini golf team has received a pre-season
ranking of #13 in the country from Golf World Magazine. The Illini play in
four fall golf invites, including their own at Olympia Fields from Sept 16-18.

Speaking of "the" coach..Small did confirm he will miss the event to play
on Team USA and head for California and the PGA Cup. Small played on
the team in 2009, that won across the pond. The USA has never lost on
it's home soil.
