THE GOG BLOGS SUNDAY MORNING SHORT GAME

COG HILL IS THE HOME OF THE 2011 BMW CHAMPIONSHIP THAT TEES OFF
THIS WEEK. SEE THE PGA TOUR AND SUPPORT THE EVANS SCHOLARS.

A tour of course #4 "Dubsdread" Saturday morning by the Gog Blog found
the course in extremely better condition than in 2010. The addition of two
fans to move air around greens 4-13, have left both holes and greens in
much better condition.

There wasn't much play happening on #4 Saturday morning but the few
players that were out there, did nothing but rave about courses conditions
and how great the greens were. One player said the greens haven't been
this good since Dubs re-opened after the renovations.

A massive crew of workers were out cutting and rolling greens, and puting
a nice touch on bunkers and doing some tree trimming. One difference
that stood out, was that a big tree that guards the leftside of the 13th green
is missing. This will give the players more room to work the ball into the
green from the leftside of the fairway. It's unknown why that tree is gone,
or if weather played a role in damaging it somehow.

Superintendent Scott Pavalko's long summer of advance preparation seems
to be paying off, because even if the players still don't like the design. They
should like the conditioning. Pavalko admits to re-sodding a couple of bunker
faces in recent weeks, due to damage caused by insects. But overall Cog
Hill seems to be in very good shape.

Pavalko however is still a bit guarded in his optimism, still hoping that the
course will peak just in time for Thursdays first round. From what we see
that has a great chance of happening. But his addition to Cog Hill after
coming over from Muirfield Village, has been the Jemseks gain and a
tough loss for the Golden Bear Jack Nicklaus and folks in Columbus
Ohio.

CONDITIONS FOR THIS WEEKS BMW CHAMPIONSHIP.
