The BMW Championship week tees off at Wrigley Field this morning when
defending champion Dustin Johnson, and Mr. Cub Ernie Banks "lets hit
two" for an Evans Scholar fundraiser.
Hopefully a few extra dollars will be raised, and put another caddy or two
into college.
THIS WEEK..golf fans come out and support the Evans Scholars, and watch
the best golfers in the world at Cog Hill. "These guys are good". There are
some great local angles here this week too. Pekin Illinois native DA Points,
joins Elmhurst resident Mark Wilson.
Northwestern's Luke Donald, and University of Illinois golfer Steve Stricker
are in the field of 70 as well.
TIP OF THE CAP or Golf Visor..to our Team USA Walker Cup Team. They
might not have played their best on 9-11, and they didn't come home with
the cup. But you can bet, Captain Jim Holtgrieve made sure his 10 players
came home as better people. You can bet Team USA will be ready in 2013
at National Golf Links, to try and retake the cup from the GB & I Team.
THE PGA TOUR...should be a good shape going forward in the TV world. It
appears that in a new study, that 11 of the last 14 weeks when ol' TW isn't
in contention, the ratings GO UP. Golf fans have made their stance, now the
folks in my business to learn that and get back to work on the stories that
matter. So much for panic on the new TV deal.
RAVES..go out to my fellow golf writers who were kind enough to give me
a shout out for my interview with Steve Stricker. Mike Spellman Daily Herald,
Tim Cronin Daily Southtown, and Teddy Greenstein Chicago Tribune. Thanks
guys, and thanks to Stricker too. For showing class and professionalism and
speaking his mind in a straight forward manner. So many athletes just give
us media types nothing but cliches, or politically correct answers. Stricker
has always been straight forward and does so in a professional way.
YOU CAN BET..he wishes nothing but the best for the Jemseks and Cog Hill
going forward. What will forward be, who knows. But the absence of a PGA
Tour could mean the arrival of a long awaited for US Open. For more on that
stay tuned to an upcoming USGA Executive Director Mike Davis interview I did.
PLEASE JOIN US TONIGHT..for Golfers on Golf Radio 6 PM WJJG AM-1530,
or live on line tonight at WWW.WJJGAM1530.COM. See everyone at Cog Hill
all week long.
AS ALWAYS..the above comments are those of Rory Spears. They may or
may not be the feeling of my fellow Golfers on Golf Radio radio partners.
