LUKE DONALD LEADS CAMPAIGN FOR CONWAY FARMS TO HOST BMW IN 2013, STRICKER SAYS JEMSEKS DESERVE A REFUND
LUKE DONALD WAS THROWING DARTS AT THE COG HILL LAYOUT, WHILE STEVE
STRICKER WAS CALLING FOR THE JEMSEKS TO GET A REFUND FROM REES
JONES.
Both world number #1 and world #5 took their shots at Rees Jones and
Cog Hill. As Luke Donald admitted he is not fan of the redesign of Cog
Hill, or Rees Jones work.
Steve Stricker entered the press room two press conferences later, and
said that the "Jemseks deserve a refund" on the renovations done by
Jones.
The players in general that spoke to the media on Wednesday after their
Pro-Am rounds all said this is the last year year at Cog Hill. In spite of
some recent rumors that Cog Hill might be hosting the 2013 BMW
Championship after all, with the 2015 BMW Championship in Chicago
but not at Cog Hill.
Donald a member at the Lake Forest Conway Farms Golf Club, was in
full support of the BMW driving up to the northern suburbs. Conway
Farms has hosted USGA events, the 2009 Western Amateur and the
NCAA Championship. There are questions about how much space
they have for enitre event but with time, things should be able to be
worked out.
Other courses being mentioned as potential 2013 BMW sites besides
Conway Farms, are the Merit Club in Libertyville, Kemper Lakes
which is about to start a renovation program by Libertyville architect
Rick Jacobson, and The Glen Club.
Another possibility is the 2013 WGA Amateur moving from Olympia
Fields and the BMW going to OFCC instead. Stay tuned it will be an
interesting next 30-60 days until the announcement is made. What
will be interesting is how the pro's respond to a Pete Dye course.
Dye's work doesn't always draw rave reviews from the touring pro's
either, and the 2012 BMW is headed to Crooked Stick GC near Indy
a Dye design.
Donald also spoke about the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs, the Ryder Cup at
Medinah in 2012 and his life at #1.
