MICKELSON BLOWS UP REES JONES DESIGN OF COG HILL

PHIL MICKELSON THINKS THE JEMSEKS NEED TO BRING IN A NEW ARCHITECT
AND START OVER ON A REDESIGN. PAR 3'S LIKE THE 6TH HOLE (ABOVE) WOULD
BE AMONG THE FIRST THINGS TO GO.

Phil Mickelson didn't waste any time to come out swinging about the
redesign of Cog Hill by Rees Jones. Mickelson was later joined by local
Luke Donald, and then Steve Stricker on ripping the re-do by Rees.

Jones was recently approached by The Golf Channel and asked if he
wanted to respond to criticisms of work by tour players. Jones would
only offer up a "no-comment".

Stricker who has made headlines in multiple local papers, and as of today
the USA Today, with comments about Cog Hill and the re-do by Jones
by the author of this website. Added more fuel to fire by saying in his
pre-tourney press conference that, "the Jemseks should get their money
back."

World #1 and Northfield resident Luke Donald, admitted he is not a fan
of Jones work. When asked he supported the idea being floated around
of the BMW Championship in 2013, moving up to Conway Farms a Lake
Forest course where he is a member.

Mickelson after playing architect, put out a list of architects he would
love to see come in and fix Cog Hill. Including Gil Hanse (Boston Golf
Club-A Gog Blog Favorite), Crenshaw-Coore and others.

Mickelson said that this is the last time the event will be at Cog Hill,
but expressed his support of Cog Hill in general as a golf facility. Lefty
also gave a pat on the back to new superintendent Scott Pavalko's
work of the condition of the golf course. Mickelson called the Jemseks
a great family for the game of golf, and hopes course #4 which he said
has potential to be great is re-done.

Mickelson then spent time addressing his new belly-putter and how that
is helping his game on the greens.
