WILSON & ROSE HOLD THE WHEEL AFTER ROUND 2 OF BMW

WILSON GOT UP AND DOWN FROM THE BUNKER LEFT, TO FINISH AT 11
UNDER PAR AND IN SECOND PLACE.
First round leader Justin Rose needed some late birdies to catch and
pass Elmhurst resident Mark Wilson. Rose could have held the lead
solo in the BMW Championship at Cog Hill after two rounds if not for
a bogey on 18.
Rose backed up his first round 63 with a 68 that left him with a share
of the lead with Wilson, who backed up his opening round 65 with a
second round 66.
Wilson needed his best short game to hold on to a share of the lead
after round two. Wilson had three up and down saves from bunkers
on the back side, including two out standing ones on 14 and at 18.
After a great drive on 18 that hit the fairway, Wilson found his ball in
a sand filled divot. From there he pushed his approach shot into the
right bunker,and up against the edge of the bunker and in a lie where
his ball was partially plugged.
But Wilson was able to blast his approach shot to 10 feet and save
par, with a putt that went dead center.
Rose didn't see a leaderboard on the middle of the back nine, but
admitted his round had got a bit flat. Rose had a two shot lead to
start the round, but was two shots down to Wilson by the time he
reached the 15th tee.
Where Rose pounded driver and then 3-iron to 32 feet, from there he
calmly sunk the putt and was back tied with Wilson. A birdie on 16
put him a shot ahead, and then a bogey on 18 left him back in a tie.
With NBC switching to college football by 2:30, the tournament is
set to wrap up round 3 by about 1:30-2:00 on Saturday.
Tee-times start at 7:25 with Rickie Fowler group off of tee #1, and
Sergio Garcia and group off of #10.
Steve Stricker finished his round with a -1 (70). But then withdrew
after consulting a doctor with neck pian. Stricker says he will play
at Atlanta next week.
Webb Simpson is in third place two shots behinds the leaders, and
John Senden is alone in fourth place three shots behind.
