The Global Golf Post, recent addition and always FREE on line has a
great video feature on it's final page. Catch myself, Len Ziehm, Teddy
Greenstein interviewing 2010 BMW Champion Dustin Johnson, from
in the bleachers. Great video courtesy of PGA Tour.com. PG 34.
It seems strange sitting here today and not having a tournament to go
cover. One moment the summer was ahead of us, and the John Deere
Classic, Illinois Open, Western Amateur, the US Amateur, the BMW
Championship and more were all upcoming.
Now they are in the record books, and like with our baseball teams
we say wait until next year. At least now there is time to GO PLAY
some golf. But a golf writers work is never done these days. It will
be in full form bright and early today at Medinah, for a Ryder Cup
media event and more. It will be interesting to see how course 3
looks after having conditioning issues for most of the summer.
STAY WITH US HERE..on the Gog Blog for features and more
even though the weekly columns are slimming down for fall and
winter. Our Sunday morning short game will return on Oct. 16th,
and this column our Gog Blog Speaks Out is back on Oct 10th.
THE MONTHLY NEWS BLOG..returns on Oct. 3rd, with a pile of
fall golf news. The final issue of Chicago Area Golf with columns
from yours truly and more hits the proshops about Oct. 6.
WORD ON THE STREET..is that Cog Hill is NOT out of the running
for hosting the 2013 BMW Championship. What all would need to
be done is a little foggy. But the Jemseks and Rees Jones would
no doubt have to make some changes to the course. Some of the
spines in the greens would have to go, a few bunkers removed and
edges lowered to give players shots into the green. Overall size of
a few bunkers could be changed.
WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER COURSES UNDER CONSIDERATION,
depending on who you want to talk to there are several courses
that could play host in 2013. Conway Farms, Merit Club, Kemper
Lakes, Olympia Fields, and even a rumor of Northshore (WHY ?)
being in the mix.
RANTS,RAVES AND MORE...A Rave to Bill Haas on his win
of the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs, with his victory in Atlanta yesterday,
well played Bill. To Hunter Mahan who made the playoff exciting
too.
A RAVE GOES OUT OT THE Womens Western Golf Association
for the well done luncheon last week at Lakeshore Country Club.
The Gog Blog enjoyed seeing PR machine of the WWGA Suzie
(one putt) Wagner, Cynthia Hirsch, Linda Gilley and the rest of
the "Blue Coats". Best wishes on your championships for 2012.
IDEA..How about a Womens Western Open as a LPGA event,
just asking.
A TIP OF THE CAP OR GOLF VISOR..goes to Olympia Fields
and the club news letter "The Olympian" for running my feature
on Chicago area golf instructor Chris Spalla now at TPC Chicago
in Justice. The Spalla family has been part of the club for years.
A RANT GOES OUT TO..Mother Nature who gave us a cold spring,
a hot summer and too much rain in July. How about a nice fall so
the area courses can have a nice finish to the season.
RANT TO THE PGA TOUR..who needs to find dates for a PGA
Tour event in Michigan, now that a sponsor has emerged in the
Great Lake State for an event there. Get it done.
THE GOG BLOG RETURNS TONIGHT ..with a wrap up on the day
at Medinah.Ryder Cup news and more..Stay tuned. GO PLAY.
THE ABOVE COMMENTS..are those of Rory Spears and not those
of my Golfers on Golf Radio Partners, even though at times they
could be.
