THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT...RANTS,RAVES AND MORE.
GOG BLOG GUY ON THE 18TH AT OMAHA CC
(The Gog Blog, Chicago's ONLY year round golf news source)
THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT...BY RORY SPEARS.
For the month of November, there seems to be a lot going on in the golf
world. Good thing too. The news is from far away and right here at home.
WHY..THE BIG DEAL ABOUT STEVE WILLIAMS LATEST COMMENTS
ABOUT TIGER...why because it's Tiger...shame on a few folks who can't
let Woods fade away from the spotlight, until he proves it on and off the
course that he deserves it back.
For those of you that missed it over the last week. Williams was called on
stage at the recent year end caddy's dinner this past week in China. On
a night that is expected to be fun for those attending, and loaded with laughs
from jokes that are off-color and more. The format was like that at a roast,
where people hand out and receive shots of crazy humor. People who
have never attended such a function, or don't have close friends that they
can abuse in a fun way. Will probably never understand. If you are one of
the unfortunate ones in life who has received an overdose or has OD'd on
politcial correctness, this story and the event are lost on you I'm sorry to
say.
Williams was asked on stage about his comments towards Woods at the
WGC-Bridgestone in Ohio this summer. This was after Woods fired Williams
who then went to work for Adam Scott, at that tournament Scott won and
Williams called it his best win ever etc. etc. etc.
Williams in what he thought was a fun format, decided to to take another
poke at Woods. Explaining that his comments were intended to "Stick it
to that Black A_ _ _ _ _ _." OKAY..not the best choice of words, and while
some folks don't care about Williams use of the "A" word. They care about
the fact he used the word "Black" in front of it. Williams could have made
his point without using the word black, and most people would understand.
HAD WILLIAMS..just come out and said this in a normal media session then
the time would have been right to pound him. But most people who have a
brain tune out comments from events like this, or at least understand that
these aren't media sessions and wacky off colored humor is what's going
to be heard. Comments like this at private events aren't for public consumption
anyway, so why make them public in the first place.
THEY CAME OUT BECAUSE IT'S WOODS...all those Tiger apologists are
mad that Williams isn't going to be fined. Williams did apologize through his
website, which doing it that way angered a few folks. Of course the king of
hiding behind a website to make comments is none other than Woods.
ADAM SCOTT..says he told his caddie to apologize. But says he has no
problem with either person, and won't get in the middle of a Woods-Williams
feud. There is NO reason that he should either, that's between T-Dub and
S-Dub as the duo was referred to when they worked together.
GOLF HOWEVER IS EXPLOITING THE WHOLE THING FOR RATINGS..sad
but true. If people want to point the blame, take your finger and point it at the
folks who are reportedly pairing Scott and Woods together at the Australian
Open. But will it stop there, what about the following week at the Presidents
Cup. Will Woods and Scott get paired together in singles or other formats.
I BET THOSE PEOPLE WOULD SAY..that the pairing thing is just for fun.
Maybe that's what Williams was trying to do, when he made the comments
at the dinner, have a little fun.
THAT NEW EVENT IN TOWN AT RICH HARVEST FARMS...Last week the
Gog Blog got tipped about a new "olympic style" event headed for Rich Harvest
Farms in 2012, headed up by the LPGA.
THERE IS STILL WORK TO BE DONE..but over the weekend Golf Channel.com
and today the Global Golf Post picked up the story and are reporting that, the
tournament might get called the International or the Continental Cup. The main
sponsor would be the west suburban based Navistar Corporation.
There is still no comment from RHF owner Jerry Rich regarding the event, but
reports are that the dates could be the week of July 9-16. It's easy to see
why those dates would be the target for the LPGA, because it would be easy
for the event to get the players to Sugar Grove because they would be coming
right from the 2012 US Womens Open in Kohler Wisconsin.
BUT THE BIGGER PICTURE...is that those dates directly conflict with the
John Deere Classic our only regular scheduled PGA tour stop in Illinois. The
RHF location puts these two big golf events only 90 minutes apart at the
same time. The Gog Blog says BOOOO to that. The 2009 Solheim Cup
was a great event, it would be nice to get the LPGA and or a special womens
professional golf event back in the area. But not at the expense of another
great event the JDC, which is drawing more fans from the Chicago area all
the time.
THIS EVENT WOULD FEATURE TEAMS..from the USA, possibly Korea,
Japan, and Australia. The countries that are left out of the Solheim Cup,
and have many good players on the LPGA Tour.
THE GOG BLOG WAS HAPPY TO HEAR FROM KENT INSTEFJORD..who
has landed on his feet in Tucson AZ. The former head professional at both
Whistling Straits and Erin Hills in Wisconsin, is now the GM at LaPaloma
CC. That's tied in with a nearby Westin Hotel, guests of the Westin can play
LP-CC which is private.
Tucson has several great golf properties to visit, even if our baseball teams
are no longer holding camp there. In the upcoming weeks the Gog Blog will
feature a destination Tucson story, for those who want to play this winter
while the cold and snow are outside and piled up on our courses.
CONGRATS TO LUKE DONALD...NU Alum and World #1 on his PGA of
America Player of the year award. He deserves the same from the PGA
Tour, stay tuned.
THE GOG BLOG IS HAPPY TO SEE..Golfers on Golf radio guest from this
past summer Jim Holtgrieve the 2011 Walker Cup Captain retained by the
USGA for the 2013 Walker Cup that gets held at the National Golf Links on
Long Island NY. Where the first Walker Cup was played back in the 1920's.
THE GOG BLOG..and Golfers on Golf Radio teamed up this past summer to
do some cross promotion with VAL RUSSELL's CHICAGO AREA GOLF. The
Gog Blog guy has enjoyed adding a column to the CAG, along with folks like
Len Ziehm and Wil Wagner.
NOW BOTH CHICAGO GOLF MEDIA OUTLETS..are teaming up on the ad
front for 2012. If your courses or tournaments or golf products are interested
in
advertising for 2012, please contact us. It's not to early. Golfers on Golf and
Chicago Area Golf provide your course, resort, tournament, or golf products
with access to two websites, live radio and print. The best combined exposure
for golf in the Chicago market, especially with the major papers in town losing
touch with the golf community and the sport itself.
